Despite Government Threats California Votes For Sanity

In yesterday's special election the voters of California rejected five of six propositions that were supposed to close the state's budget deficit but most likely would have only postponed the inevitable. Hard to believe but voters just did not want to pay more taxes to bail out years of their state government's irresponsible spending.

Since being elected, President Obama and Vice President Biden are no longer candidates or senators or plain old private citizens. Having been sworn into the highest offices in our country they no longer speak as Americans, they speak for America and that power and influence comes with enormous responsibility. Yet time and again they seem to forget that their words have real impact on the lives of their fellow citizens. Recent cases in point:
Granholm To Replace Souter On Supreme Court?

UPI is reporting that President Obama is considering Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm as a possible replacement for Supreme Court Justice David Souter.
Gov. Granholm holds a J.D. from Harvard Law School. She has served as both Wayne County Corporation Counsel and Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Michigan.
Notre Dame Protests Too Little Too Late

President Obama will deliver the commencement address at the University of Notre Dame today despite protests by some bishops, students, alumni and others. At issue is the president's stand on abortion rights and embryonic stem cell research which are in direct conflict with Church teachings.

Today marks the 134th running of the Preakness Stakes. For those not familiar with horse racing, the Preakness is the big race after the Kentucky Derby and before the Belmont Stakes. If a horse wins all 3 in one year they have won the Triple Crown, a feat that hasn't been accomplished since Affirmed did it in 1978.
