In 2008, Candidate Barack Obama promised that if elected he would address comprehensive immigration reform during his first year in office. Four years later, he has vowed to address reform at the beginning of his second term. But rather than admit this is just another campaign promise on which Mr. Obama failed to deliver, his re-election campaign's senior adviser blames a Republican "reign of terror."

With just one decision the likely GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney has struck two solid blows against Democrats' ridiculous claim that Republicans are waging a war on women. By selecting Beth Myers to head his vice presidential selection and vetting process, Mr. Romney has both given a woman a very visible and important role in his campaign and reminded voters that that same woman was his chief of staff when he was governor of Massachusetts.

The debate over forcing a religious institution to pay for employees' contraception morphed into unfounded claims that Republicans want to outlaw contraception. A Democratic strategist's foolish dig against an opposition candidate morphed into the generalized accusation that Democrats don't believe raising children is work. While these manufactured controversies captivate the journalists who sensationalize them and the politicians who try to take advantage of them, the women of America are once again being reduced to reproductive organs with voting rights and petty concerns.

At a pro-growth tax policy conference today, former President George W. Bush offered some brief remarks on the changes to the US tax code made during his presidency. Those changes, widely known as the Bush tax cuts, were so important to the health of the US economy that President Barack Obama signed a two year extension of them in 2010.
