Candidates Should Learn From Daniels
By Carole on Jan 25, 2012
As Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich continue to throw millions of dollars and hundreds of sarcastic barbs at each other, their constant attempts to prove they are the best at gotcha politics is wearing thin. Of course every primary process includes some of what is politely called "contrasting" (in reality it is highlighting the negative aspects of an opponents record), but getting lost in all the mud slinging and chest thumping is the most important issue in the country today.
Could A Brokered Convention Become A Tea Party?
By Carole on Jan 24, 2012
Appearing on FNC's Happening Now this morning, former House Majority Leader and Chairman of FreedomWorks Dick Armey was asked to comment on reports that the Tea Party Movement has not been involved in the GOP primary process and may in fact be dead. As an influential voice in the movement, Mr. Armey explained that tea party activists have been working on reinforcing the conservative majority in the House and capturing a conservative majority in the Senate while the media has been focused only on presidential politics. But he also said the grassroots movement could have a very real role in choosing the eventual presidential nominee once the primary process is complete.
Did The GOP Estabishment Just Blink?
By Carole on Jan 23, 2012
In case there was any doubt, the results of Saturday's South Carolina primary proved there's a proxy war going on in the Republican Party. While casual observers may see a battle between former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney and former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich, the real fight is between a party establishment that believes only a moderate can win in November and conservatives who want to block a moderate from winning the nomination.
Obama's Running For Another First Term
By Carole on Jan 21, 2012
On Tuesday night, President Barack Obama will deliver his fourth State of the Union Address. Traditionally the unofficial kickoff of an incumbent president's re-election campaign, he cannot be faulted for using this Constitutionally mandated speech as a political opportunity (though one could argue he's been campaigning more than governing for years). But in a video released this morning to millions of his supporters, he previewed an address designed to win a first term for an untested candidate, not a second term for a president that has already failed.
Is A Brokered Convention In The GOP's Future?
By Carole on Jan 20, 2012
The GOP primary process isn't going according to the usual script. Longtime frontrunner Mitt Romney is stumbling at just the wrong time and no longer looks like the presumptive nominee, Newt Gingrich is surging again but after so many ups and downs, his prospects seem as unstable as his temperament. Ron Paul keeps raising enough money to remain in the race and play a serious spoiler role in state after state. And Rick Santorum, buoyed by the recent news that he actually won in Iowa, has become the anti-Newt in the race to be the anti-Romney. Could these characters and their campaigns be just the opening scenes in what may be a summer blockbuster - a brokered Republican Convention?
